Kids Jiu-Jitsu: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) isn’t just for adults. It’s the perfect activity for kids! This form of martial arts is based on automatic human responses and incorporates a lot of ground grappling. When it comes to self-defense, Jiu Jitsu empowers a smaller individual to fight against a larger opponent.
But the advantages don’t stop there – Jiu Jitsu helps kids gain confidence, learn discipline, focus their energy, foster respect for others, and be a part of a one-of-a-kind community full of future friends and mentors!
We get it, being a kid isn’t always easy! Between homework, trying to make friends, and school bullies, there’s a lot to deal with. At Raposo BJJ, we want to be a place of escape from all of those struggles. While the rest of the world may take a toll on your child’s confidence, we’re here to build it up.
After watching hundreds of young martial artists go through our program, we have no doubt that practicing Jiu Jitsu improves students’ confidence in a way that no other activity can. Jiu Jitsu pushes students out of their comfort zones – helping them acquire new skills, teaching them how to defend themselves and avoid conflict, and providing them with much-needed support and guidance.
Students enter our Kids Jiu Jitsu program as shy and insecure children and leave as outgoing and self-assured martial artists.
The martial arts provide an advantage that no other sport can boast about – the value of respect. Respect for both oneself and others is embedded into everything martial arts does.

Practicing discipline in our school is all about carefully following your instructor’s directions, staying quiet during class, having a good attitude from the moment you enter our building, and taking accountability for your actions. After all, you can’t perfect a technique if you’re too busy talking to your friend!
A huge part of what makes Jiu Jitsu so great is that it doesn’t just strengthen the body, it strengthens the mind as well. Many parents worry that Jiu-Jitsu won’t be the right fit for their child because he or she has a lot of energy. But this couldn’t be further from the truth!
At Raposo BJJ, we want our students to be energetic and excited when they come to class – our goal is simply to focus that energy. After a long day sitting at a desk, kids need a place to let loose. Our kids Jiu Jitsu curriculum aims to take all that pent-up energy and direct it into throws, blows, and a wide variety of fun activities.

Hands down best gym in Slidell. Multiple World champion instructors and world champion students. Best family environment and the best fellowship I’ve ever been apart of. The best training equipment, and even a cryotank for cryogenic therapy and recovery, that is open to the public to use! If you choose anything where else in the area, you’re automatically settling for second place. A lot of places fake a lot of credentials, but you can’t fake results, and we have the gold medals to prove it. Whether you want to learn self defense, become a competitive athlete, or just get in better shape while making new friends, this is the place for you. No question about it!

Visited after a competition. Erick is a wizard. Really friendly students and clean gym. High level women (purple and brown) and several visiting black belts were there for an open mat so I got amazing training in.

There are very few gyms in the US that can say the head instructor is a world class jiujitsu athlete, moreover one who is currently ranked #1 in his weight class for IBJJF.... And you have him in Slidell, LA... which is crazy! The facility is super nice and kept very clean, great atmosphere, and Professor Raposo is one of the nicest human beings on the planet. You will be very hard pressed to find one person with anything bad to say about him. If you are anywhere within a 45 minute drive of his gym, this is a no brainer, you need to be going here.

I am almost 60 years old (not as sharp as the younger generation) so feel like this is not an easy task for him. He takes the time to understand my needs as a student.
